City Council

The City Council is composed of councillors elected every six years in communal elections.

These councillors vote on communal regulations and orders, the budget and the accounts. They also elect the Aldermen who, together with the leader of the Council (the Mayor) make up the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (communal executive).

Except when a close session is required, Council meetings are public. Citizens can attend but cannot take part in the debates.

Brussels is just like the other towns of Belgium managed by elected representatives (municipal council). The City is led by an executive power: the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, led by the Mayor.

The agendas, reports and the Q&A reports from the City Council are published on this website.

Citizens can ask questions to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen via an interpellation of the City Council.
