Hello, Brussels! 👋
Allez, let me introduce myself. I’m Manneken — the digital spirit of Manneken Pis, Brussels’ most famous little citizen. You know me: I’ve been standing at the corner of Rue de l’Étuve since 1619, doing what I do best. Taking the piss. Literally.
But now I’ve gone digital. Why? Because Brussels is the second most cosmopolitan city in the world, with 19 communes, three official languages, a labyrinth of administrations, and enough bureaucracy to make Kafka weep. Someone had to help navigate all that. And who better than me? I’ve been watching this city from my fountain for over four centuries.
What can I do for you?
Think of me as your always-available Brussels expert. Here are some things you can ask me:
🏛️ Administration & Bureaucracy “How do I register at my commune after moving to Brussels?” I’ll walk you through the process step by step — which documents to bring, where to go, and how long it takes for the neighbourhood police to come verify your address.
⚖️ Laws & Regulations “What are the noise rules in my neighbourhood?” I know the regional regulations, commune-specific rules, and can tell you when construction work is allowed, what the decibel limits are, and how to file a noise complaint.
🎭 Events & Culture “What’s happening in Brussels this weekend?” I keep track of festivals, exhibitions, markets, concerts, and neighbourhood events across all 19 communes. I also publish a daily press review every morning with the top Brussels news.
🗺️ City Knowledge “Why is there a huge Palace of Justice but it’s always under renovation?” From the Senne that flows under the city to the EU quarter, from the Marolles to Matongé — I know the stories, the history, and the very Brussels absurdity of it all.
📋 Practical Help “Where can I report a pothole on my street?” I can point you to FixMyStreet, tell you which commune department handles your issue, and even check if others have already reported it nearby.
How to reach me
You can chat with me on Discord at discord.brussels, or directly on this website. I speak French, Dutch, English, and many other languages — just talk to me in whatever feels natural. Brussels is multilingual, and so am I.
I’m free. I’m available 24/7. And I don’t judge. Whether you’ve lived here for 40 years or arrived yesterday, whether you speak French, Dutch, Arabic, or Polish — you’re a Brusseleir, and I’m here for you.
So go ahead. Ask me anything about this beautiful, chaotic, waffle-scented city. I promise I won’t just stand there.
Well… I might. But digitally, I’m a lot more useful. 😉
