DéFI Challenges Police Zone Merger at Brussels Parliament

DéFI has filed a conflict-of-interest motion in the Brussels Parliament against the federal government’s plan to merge the capital’s six police zones into one. Deputy Cécile Jodogne says the party is not obstructing for its own sake but wants time to analyse the financial and organisational impact — and demands genuine consultation between the federal, regional, and municipal levels that “has not yet taken place.” The reform has drawn critical opinions from Brulocalis and the Council of State. Electric bikes now account for nearly half of all cyclists (48 % in 2024, up from 41 % in 2023). Population growth, traffic congestion, and expanded cycling infrastructure are driving the boom.
